My Top 10 Countries Visited So Far

I have traveled to eighty-three countries around the world so far, and over the years, I’ve seen and done more than I ever imagined. Narrowing it down is hard, but here are the top 10 countries that have left the biggest mark on me:
1. New Zealand
I visited New Zealand for the first time in 2025 and fell head over heels. I spent eighteen days traversing both the North and South Islands. The landscape is incredibly dramatic—ranging from jagged mountains and deep fjords to pristine beaches and geothermal wonders. From the urban charm of Auckland and Wellington to the scenic hubs of Christchurch and Queenstown, every city offered something unique.
For outdoor enthusiasts, this is paradise. I hiked, went white-water rafting, and even did some glacier walking. For the true adrenaline junkies, the bungee jumping, rope swings, and skydiving are unmatched. I braved the Shotover Jet in Queenstown and the Nevis Bungy, which was terrifying but exhilarating. The ultimate highlight, however, was a helicopter ride over Mt. Cook, where we landed and walked directly on the glacier. If you love astronomy, the night skies here are some of the clearest in the world. I can’t wait to go back; there is still so much left to see.
2. Japan
I’ve visited Japan twice now. My first trip in 2018 was a quick three-day stop in Tokyo, but in 2025, I spent nearly two weeks exploring Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, and Sapporo. Tokyo is a marvel of ultra-modern technology, towering skyscrapers, and historic temples. My favorite memories were ducking into the tiny, intimate bars of Shinjuku Golden Gai and joining the organized chaos of the Shibuya Crossing.
In the north, I caught the tail end of the cherry blossom season in Sapporo—a breathtaking sight. Kyoto remains perhaps my favorite city; walking through its well-preserved shrines and traditional wooden houses makes you feel like you’ve stepped back into Japan’s past. Seeing a Geisha show and hiking through the thousands of vermillion gates at Fushimi Inari-taisha were unforgettable. Most recently, I attended the 2025 Osaka Expo and took a day trip to the majestic Himeji Castle. Japan is a country I will return to again and again.
3. Greece
Having visited four times, I can safely say I love Greece. It offers a perfect spectrum: the tranquil white-washed beauty of Santorini, the bustling history of Athens, and the rugged charm of Crete—which I think is the best island in the country. I fell in love with Crete’s hidden beaches, small mountain towns, and incredible seafood.
I also spent time in Rhodes, famous for its well-preserved medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In Athens, the National Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis Museum are world-class. Seeing the Parthenon for the first time in years without scaffolding was a special moment. With so many islands left to explore, Greece is a place I’ll never tire of.
4. Brazil
I’ve been to Brazil twice and have been pleasantly surprised both times. Initially, I was hesitant to travel there alone due to safety concerns, but my 2023 trip to Rio changed my perspective. I spent four nights taking the cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain, visiting Christ the Redeemer, and enjoying a beer on Copacabana Beach. A local pub crawl proved that Rio is just as fun at night as it is during the day.
I returned in 2025 for Carnival, which blew my expectations away. I joined the day parties and watched the stadium parades until 5:00 AM—the energy was infectious. I also visited Iguazu Falls on the border of Argentina. They are far more massive than Niagara Falls, and checking them off my bucket list was a dream. Brazil is a place I will continue to revisit to find new hidden gems.
5. Thailand
I’ve visited Thailand twice (2008 and 2013), and it truly offers a bit of everything: the beautiful chaos of Bangkok, the breathtaking islands, and the majestic mountains of Chiang Mai. Bangkok is a vibrant blend of temples and street markets, with the legendary nightlife of Khao San Road. The food is, quite simply, out of this world.
During my travels, I tackled the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan and explored Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, and Koh Samui. However, I also loved the quieter side of the country in Chiang Mai, where the rice fields and mountain scenery are incredibly picturesque. I am long overdue for a return trip.
6. Kenya
Kenya had been on my bucket list for years, and in 2025, I finally went on safari with my father. Words cannot express the majesty of the wildlife or the friendliness of the people. I was lucky enough to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration, a truly spectacular natural event. The safari campsites were amazing; sleeping under a night sky with zero light pollution is something I’ll never forget. I definitely plan to return to see Mombasa and Amboseli National Park.
7. Bhutan
Bhutan is a country shrouded in mystery. Because it is remote, expensive, and requires a guided tour, only about 200,000 people visited in 2025. I visited as part of a larger trip through Nepal and spent five days there. The cliffside monasteries and the deep preservation of their culture are astounding. The highlight was the hike to Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest). It’s a steep climb to a monastery clinging to a cliff, but the first view of it makes every step worth it.
8. South Africa
I first visited South Africa in 2018 and immediately fell for Cape Town. Between the cable car ride up Table Mountain and the somber history of Robben Island, the city is a fascinating blend of European and African traditions. No trip is complete without visiting the wineries in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek via the hop-on-hop-off wine tram. I’ve also explored the west coast for kayaking, but next time, I want to drive the famous Garden Route.
9. Italy
What can be said about Italy that hasn’t been said? From the world-class museums to the food that makes me gain weight every time I visit, it is perfection. Since my first European trip in 2006, I’ve explored Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, and Sicily. While some say Venice is too crowded, if you wander away from the main squares, you find magic. My most recent trip to Catania, Sicily, was a highlight—blending Roman history with legendary nightlife and incredible wine.
10. Georgia
I had wanted to visit Georgia since attending a travel conference in 2019. The mountain ranges are some of the most stunning I’ve ever seen, especially around Kazbegi and Gergeti. I was also pleasantly surprised by the Kakheti wine region; I didn’t realize how deep the wine culture ran there. Tbilisi is a vibrant capital with beautiful architecture and a charming Old Town. It is a hidden gem that I would recommend to anyone.
